The
government investment in the arts, such as music and theater is a waste of
money. Government must invest this money in public service instead.
To what
extent do you agree with this statement?
The
government plays an important role in developing a country. That is why there
is an argument as to how the government should invest more in either arts or
public service. Each side believes their cause to be more important than the
other. Which is why the claims as to which is more essential. I personally believe
the government should invest equally in both because of specific reasons.
The
predominant reason why the city council should allocate some budget into public
service is because it is able to minimize some social problems among society
such traffic congestion. As such, in some metropolitan cities, providing public
transport such as bus and train is actually needed to tackle this obstacle.
Yogyakarta, Indonesia, which always faces this circumstance everyday
particularly in a crowded hour provides more fast train and Transyogyakarta, a
public bus as an example. Existing both modes of public transport results
Yogyakarta to become free from traffic jam in every street.
On the other
hand, the arts becomes a spectacular way for people to express their
creativity. For some people, music and theater are sometimes dedicated to
deliver a message what they feel. This is a reason why the government should
also invest in the arts. In Indonesia, songs and theatricals are often created
to criticize the government or to depict a social life reality among societies.
A good example is an Indonesian song “ Wakil Rakyat” created by Iwan Fals, a
well-known Indonesian singer, which describes disillusioned people on house representative
work. It affects when senators listen to this song, they feel that some critics
are addressed to them.
In
conclusion, it is paramount for government to invest equally in both the arts
and public service as I highly argue that these are useful for societies.
